A Seasonal Pest Guide for Devon Homes
Pests follow the seasons, and knowing what to expect in each part of the year helps Devon householders spot problems early and act at the right time.
Read the guide →Our first step is to identify the pest and work out how it is getting in. We then explain it in plain language and agree the plan with you before treatment begins. Nothing starts until you are happy.
Larger homes with plenty of space
Bigger houses have more lofts, outbuildings, garages and under-stairs spaces that can go unchecked for months. That makes them a good fit for mice, rats, wasps and moths, because a problem can develop in one corner without anyone noticing. In Maidencombe, large gardens and garages make this especially easy to miss.
We inspect the areas you rarely visit and explain what we find. Often a few simple steps make a lasting difference, such as sealing gaps, storing food and fabrics properly and keeping garden waste away from the walls. We leave you with a short list of what to watch for.
Holiday lets and field edges
Holiday lets mean regular changeovers, and bed bugs and fleas can arrive with guests and their pets. A quick inspection and sensible treatment protect the next booking, and early action keeps the problem from spreading through furniture. Maidencombe lets that stand empty between bookings should be checked before guests arrive.
Fields close to Maidencombe bring rodents, insects and wasps close to gardens and houses. In autumn, rodents look for warm, dry places indoors, so a check of gaps around doors, pipes and eaves before winter is worth the time.
Covering Maidencombe and the Bay
We cover Maidencombe and the TQ1 postcode area, and we also work in Torquay, Shaldon and Teignmouth nearby. Tell us about access and the location of the problem when you contact us, and say if the property is a let with changeover days to work around. We will identify, explain, agree the plan and then carry out careful work. We are happy to coordinate with a cleaner or key holder. Parking nearby is usually straightforward, but let us know if your drive is steep or narrow.
Frequently asked questions
Do you handle bed bugs in a holiday let?
Yes. We inspect to confirm them, explain how far they have spread and agree a treatment plan. Prompt action matters when guests come and go, so do not wait if you suspect them.
Why do I get mice in autumn near open fields?
As nights cool, rodents look for warmth and food. Properties beside fields are often the first they find. Sealing gaps and storing food securely helps, and we can treat any that have already come in.
Can you check outbuildings and lofts?
Yes. We look at lofts, garages and outbuildings as well as the main house, because pests often use those areas first.
