What Attracts Cockroaches Into a Home or Kitchen
Cockroaches look for warmth, moisture, food and dark hiding places, so understanding what draws them in is the first step to keeping them out of your kitchen.
Read the guide →We visit Budleigh Salterton to inspect, find where the insects are sheltering and treat them. We explain each step and agree the plan with you beforehand.
Why tidy homes still get cockroaches
Cockroaches are drawn by warmth, moisture and shelter far more than by mess. A boiler cupboard, a gap behind the dishwasher or a damp spot under the sink can suit them, and they often arrive in parcels, boxes or second-hand items brought into the home.
In a Budleigh Salterton home we check those places first, using a torch and looking for droppings like ground pepper, egg cases and a musty smell. We keep the visit unhurried and respectful, particularly for older residents who may be worried or live alone.
Help for older residents and carers
Many homes in the town belong to retired people, and some are looked after by family or carers. If you are arranging help for a relative, we can speak to whoever is easiest to reach and explain in plain terms what is needed before anything starts.
Preparation is kept simple. We may ask for a cupboard to be cleared or food to be put away, and we explain how long to stay out of a treated area. Cockroaches can spread germs onto food surfaces, so we also suggest easy habits such as storing food in tight containers. In Budleigh Salterton we are happy to talk it through on the phone first.
Guest accommodation and nearby areas
Guest rooms and holiday cottages near the seafront have their own risks, as luggage and deliveries come and go. The countryside around the town is not usually the source. We cover Budleigh Salterton and EX9, along with Exmouth and Sidmouth. Tell us what you have seen, and we will arrange an inspection and a follow-up where needed. Seafront properties can have damp corners and salty, draughty gaps around pipes and windows. We look at those areas as part of the visit and suggest simple repairs, which reduce the places cockroaches can shelter.
Frequently asked questions
Does a cockroach mean my Budleigh Salterton home is dirty?
No. Cockroaches look for warmth, moisture and shelter, and they can arrive in boxes or on appliances. Clean homes get them too. What matters is finding where they live and treating that spot.
Can my daughter arrange the visit for me?
Yes. A relative or carer can book and tell us about access. We explain what we found and what we did to whoever you prefer, in plain language, so you are comfortable throughout.
Do I have to leave the house during treatment?
Usually you can stay in other rooms, but we ask you to keep out of the treated area for a short time. The technician explains exactly how long when they arrive and what to do afterwards.
