Signs of Bed Bugs and What to Do Next
Bed bugs are small, flat insects that hide close to where people sleep, and knowing the early signs helps you act before they spread through a home.
Read the guide →Bed bugs travel on luggage, clothing and second-hand furniture. They are not caused by dirt. Spotting them early, and treating the right places, makes the whole job easier.
Taking our time in family and retirement homes
Many homes in Budleigh Salterton are lived in for many years, with long-standing furniture and fitted bedrooms. We do not rush these visits. We explain what we are looking for, ask before moving anything, and check bed frames, mattress seams, bedside units and chairs where someone might sit or rest.
If a relative or carer has been staying, or a bed was recently bought second-hand, let us know. That often points straight to the source. We will talk through the plan in plain language and answer any questions before we begin, so nothing feels sudden.
Getting ready without a struggle
Preparation should not be heavy work. If lifting is difficult, tell us and we will work out what really needs doing. The main aim is to bag bedding and nearby clothes, wash them hot, and leave the floor around the bed reasonably clear.
Please do not move furniture into other rooms or sleep on the sofa, as that can carry bugs to new places. We will advise where to rest while the room is out of use. In a quiet town like Budleigh Salterton, we are happy to arrange the visit at a time that suits you.
Returning to make sure
We come back after the first treatment to look for any movement and treat again if needed. Eggs and hidden bugs mean we cannot promise one visit will be enough. We cover Budleigh Salterton and the EX9 postcode, as well as Exmouth and Topsham, so a relative's home nearby can be checked too.
Frequently asked questions
I am elderly and live alone. Can you help me prepare the room?
Tell us when you book what you can and cannot manage. We will keep the preparation as light as possible and explain exactly what needs doing, so you are not left struggling with heavy bags or furniture.
Could my cleaning help have brought bed bugs in?
Anyone can carry them without knowing, but there is no point blaming anyone. What matters is finding where they live and treating it. We will focus on the bed and the room.
Are bed bugs dangerous for older people?
Bites are itchy and can disturb sleep, but bed bugs are mainly a nuisance. If anyone is unwell or a bite looks infected, speak to a doctor, and let us deal with the bugs.
