Okehampton sits on the northern edge of Dartmoor, with older homes, newer estates and open moorland and farmland close by. Wasps will use any sheltered gap they find, from a loft and eaves to a shed or an old wall. If you have a nest at your property, we can come out and treat it.
We confirm the price with you before any work starts. It can depend on where the nest is and how easy it is to reach. Call 01392 590 140 or send an enquiry.
Please keep away from the nest and do not block the hole or try spraying it. That can make wasps aggressive and send them indoors. Keep children and pets back, and give us a call. A short description of where the wasps are flying and how high it is will help us plan the visit.
Okehampton can be cold and wet, and a queen looking for a dry, sheltered place in spring will head for lofts, eaves, wall cavities, garages and sheds. A warm loft is ideal. Once a nest is under way it grows quickly, whatever the weather outside, and a wet summer does not stop it. A nest in a loft insulated against the cold can stay warm and active well into the autumn.
If you notice wasps heading for the same gap, hear a rustle behind a wall, or see a patch of damp-looking staining on a ceiling, tell us. We would rather hear early about a small nest than late about a large one that has taken over the loft. The result is often a larger colony than you would expect, so do not assume a small start means a small problem.
Open moorland and farmland near Okehampton mean banks, walls, hedges and outbuildings where nests can sit unnoticed. Stone walls and stacked timber are favourites. Ground nests are also possible, and they can cause trouble when someone mows the lawn or walks a dog past an entrance. Gateways, field edges and garden sheds are all worth a careful look before you go in with a mower or a strimmer.
If you find a nest outdoors, stay well clear and keep animals away. Not every nest needs treatment, so tell us where it is relative to paths, doors and play areas. We treat nests in buildings, trees, banks and the ground, and we will tell you plainly what we think. Wear long sleeves if you must pass, move slowly and keep well away from the entrance hole until we have been.
Our technician treats the nest with a professional product so the colony dies back. We can advise on clearing the old nest and closing up the gap, which helps reduce the chance of another queen moving in next year. If you live out of town, ask us; we also cover Sourton and Chagford, as well as Okehampton and the wider EX20 area, and will confirm it when you call.
Yes. Gardens near open moorland and farmland have plenty of banks, hedges, sheds and walls where nests can sit. Treat any steady stream of wasps to one spot as a sign of a nest and call us. Please call us if you are unsure.
Not reliably. Wet weather may slow a nest, but wasps shelter in lofts and cavities where rain does not reach. Do not count on the weather to solve the problem. If you can see wasps entering a gap, it is worth treating. Always get advice before deciding to wait.
Fill gaps around the roofline and vents where possible, keep bins closed, cover sweet food and drink outdoors and clear fallen fruit. None of this makes you immune, but it makes your property less attractive. Small steps add up, and our technician can suggest more.
“Extinguished wasps in very large nest in our roof space. Prompt response to our phone call and job done effectively.”
Alison Falkner“Highly recommend Stuart. He was very efficient, effective, knowledgeable and reassuringly determined. We tried various methods beforehand to solve the problem ourselves but it took Stuart coming in to eradicate it. We wouldn’t use anybody else.”
Leanne Christie“Excellent service from Devon Pest Services. We had a wasp nest above our garage that was becoming a real concern for the family. They arrived on time, treated the nest efficiently and made sure everything was safe before leaving. Very professional, reasonably priced and great customer service throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone in Exeter needing wasp nest removal.”
