How to Get Rid of Fleas in the Home
Fleas spend most of their life cycle in carpets, bedding and furniture rather than on your pet, so clearing them means treating the pet and the home together.

Okehampton sits on the northern edge of Dartmoor, with older homes, newer estates and open moorland and farmland all around. Pets here spend a lot of time outdoors, and fleas come home with them. We provide flea control in Okehampton that treats the carpets, sofas and floors where the population really builds up.
Get in touch if bites are appearing or your animals will not stop scratching, and we will arrange a visit. We keep it practical and honest, explain what we find in plain words, and tell you what to prepare so the treatment works as well as it can.
Dogs walked on the moor and cats that wander the fields can pick up fleas from wildlife and livestock areas. The fleas feed, lay eggs, and those eggs drop off wherever the animal rests. Within a short time the dog bed, the hallway and the sofa are all seeded. That is the point at which people start getting bitten as well.
Muddy boots and wet dogs also mean more cleaning in these homes, but ordinary cleaning does not reach pupae buried in carpet pile. They wait for the vibration of footsteps before hatching. Our treatment is aimed at those hidden stages, not just the adults you can see.
We start by asking where your pets sleep and spend time, then check for flea dirt and bites, and look at the flooring. Next we treat carpets, rugs, upholstery and floor edges using professional products, applied carefully with pets and children in mind. You will be told which rooms to keep clear and for how long.
Please vacuum before we arrive, then vacuum again afterwards and wash all bedding on a hot cycle. Because some pupae hatch later, we agree a follow-up. It is honest to say you may see a few fleas for a short while, and that does not mean the treatment has failed.
The most effective prevention is regular flea treatment for every pet, chosen with your vet, and a habit of washing and vacuuming where animals lie. In Okehampton, in the EX20 area, we also work in Crediton and Sourton. Do not wait if you notice bites, as dealing with a few fleas is easier than a house full of them.
It is possible. Fleas can jump onto dogs from wildlife and other animals outdoors. Regular flea treatment from your vet reduces the risk, and checking your dog's coat and bedding for flea dirt helps you notice problems early.
Vacuuming helps a lot with adults, eggs and larvae, but pupae are protected in a cocoon and can sit deep in carpet. Combining vacuuming with a proper treatment of the home and a follow-up works far better.
Yes. Homes with multiple animals are common. We look at where each one rests, treat the shared spaces, and remind you that every pet needs its own vet-recommended treatment at the same time, or fleas will simply move between them.
“I'm really happy with your service - I literally only saw one more flea after you visited, and none in the months since. I would give you a five star review. Great job!”
Lucy Hines“Extinguished wasps in very large nest in our roof space. Prompt response to our phone call and job done effectively.”
Alison Falkner“Highly recommend Stuart. He was very efficient, effective, knowledgeable and reassuringly determined. We tried various methods beforehand to solve the problem ourselves but it took Stuart coming in to eradicate it. We wouldn’t use anybody else.”
