Ants in the Kitchen: Causes and What Helps
Ants in the kitchen are usually following food and warmth, and a few careful habits can reduce them, though a persistent trail often needs professional treatment.

A holiday let that has stood empty over winter can wake up in spring with ants in the kitchen, and the same goes for ordinary Seaton family homes. Ants are one of the most common calls we get along the coast. We trace the trail, find the nest and treat it, so your guests or your household are left in peace.
We work with owners, managing agents and residents across the town.
Seaton has a lot of holiday homes, and ants cause two kinds of trouble there. One is a nest that gets going while the property is quiet. The other is guests leaving sugary drinks, open packets and crumbs, which draws a trail within a day in warm weather. Both are easy to put right if they are caught early.
If you manage lets, we can look at the entry points and the nest, and suggest simple changes such as sealed storage and a clean-down routine between stays. We try to work around changeover days so that bookings are not disrupted.
Seaton sits on the seafront with a wetlands reserve nearby and homes spreading up the valley. Mild, sheltered weather and plenty of green space suit ants well, and black garden ants nest happily under patios, paths and the base of garden walls. Sea air and damp do not put them off, and warm kitchens and flat roofs help them along.
Flats are worth a mention. Ants can travel along pipes and between units, so a trail in one flat may start in another. Telling us which neighbours are affected helps us decide how far the treatment should reach.
We ask where and when you see the ants, inspect indoors and out, then treat the nest and the routes with a targeted method rather than a general spray. Where we can, we seal the gaps they use. We also cover Colyton and Sidmouth, so addresses further up the valley in EX12 are no trouble. We tell you plainly if another visit is likely to be needed.
Often yes. Most of the work is at the nest and entry points, and we can plan around changeover days. Tell us when the property is empty and we will aim to fit in then, so guests are not disturbed and the treatment has time to settle.
Ants travel along pipes, cavities and shared walls, so a nest at ground level or in a neighbouring unit can send trails to upper floors. Noting where they appear helps us trace them, and speaking to neighbours may help if several flats are affected.
They are active wherever it is mild and sheltered, and the coast often is. You tend to see the most from late spring to early autumn, and again whenever a warm spell follows rain. The time of year matters more than how close you are to the sea.
