Signs of Bed Bugs and What to Do Next
Bed bugs are small, flat insects that hide close to where people sleep, and knowing the early signs helps you act before they spread through a home.

Torquay welcomes a steady stream of visitors, and with them comes luggage that has been in other rooms and other towns. Bed bugs are small hitchhikers that settle in mattress seams and bed frames, then bite at night. If you run a guest house or live in a flat in the town, our removal treatment is designed to clear them room by room.
We keep the process simple: a proper inspection, a thorough treatment of the bed and furniture, and a return visit to check that numbers have fallen. You will know what is happening at every stage, and we are happy to answer questions as we go.
Every treatment begins with a close inspection. We lift the mattress, check the seams and labels, look behind the headboard, and examine the bed base, the bedside furniture and the skirting. Shed skins, dark spots and live bugs tell us where they are living. Only then do we apply treatment to those hiding places, working carefully around bedding and personal belongings.
In a Torquay guest house or hotel with a run of similar rooms, we will often check the rooms either side of the affected one, since bugs can spread through gaps and shared walls. It is much cheaper in time and trouble to find them early than to treat one room after another once they have moved. A little early attention saves a great deal later.
Strip the bed, bag the bedding and curtains, and wash them hot, then dry on a high heat. Keep clothing in sealed bags until we have finished. Clear the floor and empty bedside drawers, so we can reach all the edges. Please avoid spraying anything from the shop first, because it can drive the bugs deeper into the room. Honest answers help us plan.
Torquay has many steep streets and older properties converted into flats, where rooms can be tight and awkward to reach. Tell us if furniture is fixed in place or if access is difficult, and we will plan around it. If the room is a holiday let, let us know the next booking date and we can help judge when it is sensible to reopen.
A second visit around two weeks later checks for any survivors or newly hatched bugs and treats them. After that, simple habits help: keep luggage off beds, check seams when you travel, and look carefully at second-hand furniture before bringing it in. If you are in TQ1 or TQ2, or nearby, we also cover Paignton, Cockington and Maidencombe, and can arrange a Torquay visit once we know the room layout.
Usually the affected room has to be taken out of use until it has been treated and checked. Other rooms can often stay open, but we may want to inspect those nearby first. We will explain what we find and what we recommend, so you can decide what is sensible.
Most commonly on luggage, clothing or second-hand furniture, or from a neighbouring property. It is often impossible to say exactly when or how, and it does not mean the home is dirty. We concentrate on removing them and helping you stop a repeat.
Hot washing and drying kills bugs on fabrics, which is a big help, but it does not reach the bed frame, skirting or furniture where many hide. That is why the room itself needs treating. Washing and treatment together give you a far better chance of clearing the problem.
“Paul was open to our questions and knowledgeable about everything we asked. He laid traps for mice for us to check, himself checking them over a period of weeks til we were all sure there were no mice on the premises. A friendly and reliable service. Thankyou Stuart!”
Keith Fielder“I'm really happy with your service - I literally only saw one more flea after you visited, and none in the months since. I would give you a five star review. Great job!”
Lucy Hines“Extinguished wasps in very large nest in our roof space. Prompt response to our phone call and job done effectively.”
