Sometimes you hear stories of customers who try to deal with their own pest control problems. We would not recommend this under any circumstances as it is always better to engage expert help. However, there are some situations that go beyond this and we would say must never be tackled by amateurs. A recent call-out we received for wasp nest removal in Windsor demonstrated this perfectly.
We were called to a lovely, detached house where our lady customer informed us, somewhat emotionally that her husband had been hospitalised. They had discovered a wasp nest under the chimney and rather than pay for professional assistance, her husband had decided he would sort it out personally. His ladder was a little too short but he managed to get up onto the gabled roof and creep up to where there wasp nest was located.
Without proper equipment or protection her husband then sprayed the nest with some insect repellent bought from a local supermarket. This proved ineffective and simply enraged the wasps. Fearing for the well-being of their queen, they swarmed and attacked the man. Finding himself subject to multiple stings on exposed parts of his body such as the face and hands the man staggered backwards, fell off the roof and broke both of his legs. Now not only did she have an injured husband, she still had the wasp problem to deal with.
Using our specialist equipment it was a relatively quick job to neutralise and remove the nest and we left having proven once again that there are some job that simply have to be left to the professionals.
