Older cottages, thatched roofs and homes beside parkland make Cockington a lovely place to live, and sometimes a good one for moths too. Wool carpets, curtains, rugs and long-stored clothes give larvae plenty to feed on. We inspect, identify the species and deal with the source.
We work across Cockington and the TQ2 area, as well as the rest of Torbay. If you have spotted holes, webbing or small buff moths, tell us where, and we will check those areas first.
Thatched and timber-framed cottages in Cockington often have lofts and roof voids, plus plenty of cupboards, window seats and alcoves. These are spots where dust, insect remains and animal hair gather, and where textiles may stay untouched for years. Carpet moth and beetle larvae can feed on that debris.
We look at the loft or roof space where we can safely reach it, and we check for old nests nearby. Pest activity outside the living area can sometimes explain what is happening in the bedrooms below, so we do not limit the inspection to the wardrobes.
Older Cockington homes often hold valuable fabrics: woollen carpets, silk lampshades, curtains, tapestries and family clothing. Moths target exactly those, and the first sign is usually a small hole or fine silky webbing. We examine the pieces, work out what is feeding and treat the affected areas.
We also tell you what to do around the treatment: vacuum edges and under furniture, hot wash or freeze small items, and store anything precious in sealed bags with a pheromone trap nearby so you can see whether activity stops. It is steady work rather than a quick fix.
Parkland and open green space around Cockington bring more wildlife, and moths can enter through open windows in summer. That is expected, and not a reason to worry. A regular check of wardrobes and carpet edges is the easy way to catch trouble early. We also cover Torquay and Paignton if you are on the edge of the village.
A thatched roof does not cause moths itself, but roof voids can hold nests and debris that insects feed on. We check accessible loft space as part of the inspection.
Vacuum edges and under furniture regularly, move heavy items now and then, and look for webbing or thin patches. If you see signs, we can inspect and treat the affected areas.
We inspect them and treat where larvae are feeding, using methods suited to the fabric. We also advise on what can be washed, frozen or sealed instead, especially for delicate or valuable items.
